HEART DISEASE : An Inflammatory Disease

HEART DISEASE is the number one cause of death in the world. 17.9 million people die each year from cardiovascular diseases, an estimated 31% of all deaths worldwide. where 85% of all CVD deaths are due to heart attacks and strokes. Just like me, You were probably assuming which most of the studies and statistics suggest and we often heard about it "cholesterol is harmful" and "cholesterol is the cause of heart Disease"

what if I told you that Cholesterol is not the cause behind heart disease; the Inflammation of the blood vessels is. In Many studies, Researchers revealed that more than half of heart attack patients in the worldwide have normal cholesterol levels.

If you or someone you know has been diagnosed with high cholesterol it's important to understand what cholesterol is and why it is important to keep it under control?
Cholesterol is a fat-like substance made by your liver and also comes from foods you intake that is then deposits into particles called 'LIPOPROTEINS' which is also popularly known as LDL & HDL.
LDL i.e Low-density lipoproteins which carry low-density FATS also called as Bad Cholesterol
HDL i.e High-density lipoproteins which carry high-density FATS also called as Good Cholesterol

Your body doesn't need to always produce high cholesterol if you are eating a high-fat diet. Thousands of people who are purely vegetarian and still have high cholesterol problem which means cholesterol is not totally depended upon what we are eating. Your body makes all the cholesterol it needs, to make Hormones, Vitamin D, and a substance that helps you to digest your food called Bile.
so what I am trying to convey is Cholesterol is really not "bad". God didn't make a mistake when he created it. In fact, it is essential for building Good cell membranes and different hormones that our body needs. Simply you could not survive without it.

So what makes LDL cholesterol or BAD cholesterol really BAD?

Our body has its own defense system designed to protect us. In any injury, our body responds by sending a certain amount of white blood cells to repair it. But in the case of the Oxidation of Cholesterol, this is not what usually happens. when Cholesterol becomes Modified or Oxidized by the excess of Free Radicals it causes a tremendous amount of Inflammation in our arteries. Now what it means is the amount of cholesterol in our body is not the problem, the Oxidation of Cholesterol is the problem.

Chronic inflammation is the main cause of heart attacks, stroke, and other cardiovascular diseases. The inflammation that takes place in our arteries by the excess of free radicals and when cholesterol becomes oxidized this leads to a much thicker plaque, which blocks the blood flow to that part of the heart.
